Dear Sister

Your favor of the 2nd inst came up in the mail last night.
I am glad you have received my letters and papers through the blockade.
I have entirely recovered my late illness and am gaining strength rapidly.  Much sickness prevails and the 30th Maine (our next neighbors) have a funeral almost every day and sometimes two or more in one day.  The loses in the other Regiments are Less.
Capt. J.L. Broach (?) has been made Asst. Adj. Gneral with rank of Major.  He belongs to C.H. of this Regt.
I have heard that the President has confirmed the dismissal of Col. Peck
Capt. Rogers is on his way out and I think Adj. G. Folk (?) will soon follow.
As regards movements, there is absolutely nothing going on.
Our mail was over three weeks behind the last, so that another is not due from new Orleans.
Our latest papers are New York dates of the 18th inst - giving particulars of the capture of Petersburgh and the passage of Grant's army to the south side of the James.
More next time
Gus
